I've never watched a mukbang channel, never watched a video. But why, WHY, is the only clip i ever see, in timelines or thumbnails, of these people them eating Crustaceans in the most disgusting way imaginable?

Most of them are heavily edited (i.e. they spit out the food and waste a ton of it).
A lot of the bizarre ones you may see floating around online with exotic stuff like sea cucumbers and insects are usually from Weibo or Douyin (reverse-engineered mainland China social media), which makes sense seeing as how many aspects of their food selection stems from the lost generation when Mao was in power when famine was huge which forced them to resort to eating strange things and also all the strange dietary stuff rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
